A View from Outside the Box
On this quiet Sunday of the Jubilee weekend I came across a beautiful image of the Isle of Skye Pipe Band rehearsing before a march.  (All credit to P Richard B. Smith.)  I love the sound of a pipe band but even more, the lone piper on a hill, the eerie, powerful, penetrate your bones sound of the pipes drifting over water and moorland.  The pipes are the only instrument I know of that is truly made for outdoors, an instrument married to the land.
