A View from Outside the Box
My Mother is Finnish and the Finns seem to have a special appreciation of candles, using them to convey warmth, welcome and occasion, even for ordinary days.  For several years I lived without electricity and candlelight was my source of light at day’s end.  Electric lighting hums, very quietly and in a manner I both hear and at times, find grating.  Candlelight occasionally splutters but it doesn’t disturb.  Light a candle, it will warm the darkest day.
