A change of plans to today’s posts. A past winter a pipe burst above my bedroom, torrents of water pouring onto my bed, all my clothing, books, furniture and other things. It was dreadful and took many weeks to sort out, heartbreakingly too much thrown away as unsalvageable. The plumber was called and said he’d cap that pipe….’Who’s stupid enough to put an exposed pipe right above the bedroom, he said in disgust at the poorly conceived pipework.”
He lied. Today I wondered in the odd way you do when you hear something strange, ‘Why am I hearing a hose running, coming from the bedroom……’ The plumber hadn’t capped the pipe and although it hasn’t been used since (leading to a not needed outside tap), it still had water in it. Today we’re experiencing a thaw.
As unimportant as things are in the grand scheme of…well, things, it’s hard to see your books and photos, treasured children’s drawings and Christmas gifts, clothing and more, in some cases destroyed. I am here typing this trying to calm down before I go back into the fray. Looking on the bright side, having been through two actual floods (from a river) in Scotland, the volume of water is diminishing. I guess I’ll be going to bed in oilskins tonight.
